It was one of my Big Three strips as a kid: Calvin & Hobbes, of course, Bloom County, and The Far Side.

[old fogey] They don't make comic strips like that, nowadays! [/old fogey]

I had this really elaborate system of how to read the comics page so that I kept those three for last, to savor.

I keep meaning to check out Breathed's early college-paper strips.  They're somewhere in UT's LBJ library, but I still have yet to stop in and hunt them down....

Hm. I hadn't looked at the BMI chart, but I admit to not being as shocked as I thought I would be. I'm also not sure a best-fit line is the appropriate approach for showing trends. I don't have the data to analyze, but it almost looks like the average bottomed out in the mid-80s, and started climbing up again. I'd also be interested in seeing what the scatter looks like for the US population, since that would indicate whether the numbers became less realistic, or followed the bottom edge down.
