There were tons of improvisors there. It was another of those events where people said, "If a bomb hits this place, Austin improv is doomed."
Tom Booker (stand-up comic, improv teacher, Jinxo from Babylon 5) officiated the ceremony. Notable quote: "Life without love is like a fat kid without cake."
They did a slight variation of the "unity candle". Mr. Booker explained that some people thought love was like a fire, whereas other people thought love was like a river. While he talked, people wheeled out a conical item under a sheet, Roy and Kaci donned safety goggles, and people handed them vials of some sort of clear liquid. Then Mr. Booker announced that still other people thought love was like a river *of* fire. At this point the sheet was removed, revealing the Unity Volcano. Roy and Kaci added their reagents to it, and ersatz lava exploded forth.
After that, Mr. Booker announced that zinereem would now sing a tender love song he'd written for bellatrixamici. zinereem then picked up his ukelele and did so. (Note that the entire audience sang along with the last verse.)
Their dog, Tuesday, was the ring-bearer, carrying the rings in a small dog-harness pouch.
The suggested attire was "formal but fun", and improvisors interpreted that in various ways. It was neat to see how all the improv types looked when all cleaned up. (I of course trotted out my tux again -- a tuxedo, if owned, finds any possible excuse to be worn.)
The ceremony itself ran about an hour, then it was off to Hill's Cafe for the reception.
Then there were a number of toasts, and then dancing.
They also had a video camera circulating for attendees to record video greetings. Note: improvisors are hilarious.
Once the dancing got started, I hung out with apthorpe for a while (he was in from Chicago for the event) and then headed on out.
And now the newlyweds are off to London for their honeymoon. Hooray!
