Day 16: A song that you used to love but now hate.
Sting, "Moon Over Bourbon Street"
The song is the same; it's just the world that's changed. Since then, I've learned that this is based on Anne Rice novels, which I've discovered I hate. Since then, I've gotten so. damned. tired. of vampires in general. And Sting's (ubiquitous) self-importance while he sings this vampire's lament is just wearying at this point. Even Branford Marsalis can't save the tune.
(Side note: it's interesting to me that, for me, The Soul Cages still holds up -- even though it's every bit as over-the-top as anything on The Dream of the Blue Turtles. I think the bottom line is that the third album's ruminations on death and religion feel much more genuine to me than this "imma pretend to be Lestat" bit of play-acting.)
