Okay, here is my tentative plan w/r/t trumpets:
So currently I have an old 'loaner trumpet' from Doug. I think my plan is to hold on to that for my first month or so of lessons. Then at that point, I should know if I'm going to run with this long-term, or if it's just a crazy impulsive thing.
So, if I am still feeling pro-trumpet at one month in, then I can go buy a real trumpet -- or at least as close to a real trumpet as a few hundred dollars can buy me. (So: not a serious instrument.) I have no idea how I'll go about that shopping -- do I shop online? do I buy something from a pawn shop? What, beyond certain brand names, specifically am I looking for?
I don't know, but I guess I can cross that bridge if and when I come to it.
Question for the hivemind in the meantime: I know that I have to do some things to this old trumpet to get it in proper playable shape. It looks like I have to oil the valves and grease the slides (aw jeh sexytime) -- I guess I can just follow the instructions on this page?
