Thursday (10/27/11) 8:01pm - ... wherein Spanish explores yet another way to prepare Ramen.

This week's situation:  "You've been unemployed for two weeks."

This is kind of like grad school, only with less binge drinking.

I assume that eventually this nagging, "Don't I have a meeting to get to?" feeling will go away.

What helps me get by is re-imagining my life as an epic Steinbeck novel.

Well, at least America has a safety net that ensurAHAHAHAHA.  Whew.  Okay, let me try saying that again.

If this goes on for a month, I'll just start claiming that I'm an artist.

Whoa.  I did not properly appreciate this whole "complete lack of responsibilities" thing nearly enough when I was a small child.

Ay.

Eventually, there will come a day that doesn't begin with, "What will I do today?  Oh, I know:  NOT GO TO WORK," followed by a little dance.  Today is not that day.

Note to self:  describe this period to future employers as a 'sabbatical'.  Do not describe it as 'time spent watching reruns of Magnum, P. I.'

Huh, I didn't realize binge drinking was a requirement for grad school. When am I supposed to fit that in with all the readings?

What helps me get by is re-imagining my life as an epic Steinbeck novel.

Hmm. This really depends on the Steinbeck in q.

AVOID: scrambling to find a pearl after my baby's been stung by a scorpion, and then, shit, he dies anyway
ACCEPTABLE: Living in picturesque poverty on the California coast with a bunch of colorful goofs
AWESOME: Taking a cross-country roadtrip through contentious social issues with a standard poodle and a camper trailer named after Don Quixote's horse.
