Thursday (2/10/11) 2:45pm - ... wherein Spanish knows that nothing says 'love' like stultifying social convention.

This week's situation:  "You are alone on Valentine's Day!"

Eh, if I don't get the day off, it's not even a real holiday anyway.

Some see it as a time to celebrate love.  Others, like me, see it as a time to download epic amounts of porn.

Strange that there's only this one holiday expressly designed to make me feel like shit.

Well, *something* has to balance out the hypermasculinity of the Super Bowl.

My only other option is to observe the holiday by gunning down a crowd of gangsters.

I think of it as "the day before all the chocolate goes on sale."

It could be worse.  I could be trapped in a loveless relationship but still feel obligated to do something nice.

Oh well.  At least I can still participate in the holiday's traditional Marvin-Gaye caroling.

Oh, bueno.

From my third graders:
Teacher: And what do we already know about Valentine's Day?
Student 1: It is a day of *adopts French accent, swoons* ROMANCE!
Student 2: It represents that love is pain.
